I've been coding for the web for about a decade now, and in that time I've certainly become rather familiar with the web standards of HTML 5, CSS 3, JavaScript, jQuery, and mobile web standards, as well as AJAX, JSON/JSONP, PHP, and basic Apache.
As we enter into an age of mobile web browsing and tablet computers, it is imperative that we present ourselves in a professional, likable, and elegant manner. A website offers a mechanism for access to key information, be it as simple as providing hours of operation, or increasingly more complex like on-the-go purchasing or kickstart demo videos; the ‘30-second elevator pitch’ is now just a matter of how fast you can pull your mobile phone out.
As of December 2012, 2.4 billion Internet users worldwide were browsing through 634 million web sites.
That means, to see all 634 million in a year you would have to visit 1.7 million sites a day, each day, for 365 days; that's 70,800 website views per hour, every hour, for an entire year!
Of course as consumers it's unlikely that we'll even visit that many websites in an entire lifetime, but Google does this monthly, and it's search engines that fabricate the Internet as we know it.
Hence, 'aficionado.' I don't JUST build websites; I never have, I'm enthusiastic about the industry and fixated on the technology, which makes me feel more like a partner to my clients than a traditional web developer. It's YOUR site, it's YOUR web-face, shouldn't the site's architecture also reflect YOU?
Yes, I'm aware that some of this is terribly cheesy, but that's my intention! I don't use templates to build my sites and I'm a sucker for new media technologies, want to know more? Shoot me an email at [email protected]
